Where the name
Take Five
came from.
You may wonder where the name Take Five came
from. When I bought the boat in December of 2003. I hated the name that was on it, so
one of the first things I had to do was rename her. I spent the winter
agonizing over a new name. I wanted the name to be easy to repeat
three times for radio calls, fairly unique and, above all, not "powerboat-ish".
As a teenager in the late 50's, I got interested
in jazz music and Dave Brubeck in particular. At the time he was
experimenting with altering the time signatures of music to some fairly far out
beats. He came out with an album in 1959 called "Time Out". One of
the cuts on the album turned out to be one of the few jazz pieces to ever make
the popular music charts. Written by Paul Desmond, "Take Five" was, and
is, hugely popular. Click

So, Take Five matches the criteria,
it's a good tune, it's easy to say and it also conveys the idea of getting away
and relaxing for 5 minutes, 5 hours, 5 days, weeks or years. So, come enjoy some "Time Out" on
Take Five.
